The Monroe School will offer a GenCyber camp for middle school students in grades 6th – 8th, ensuring representation for those students from underrepresented populations in the Washington, DC Public and Charter School communities focused in wards 5, 7 and 8.
Camp Dates: August 16-20, 2021

Students will:
- Increase interest in cybersecurity and diversity in the cybersecurity workforce of the nation through hands-on exercises, daily interaction with special guest speakers, and participating in a collection of engaging curricula and fun, interactive activities, learn how to create an inclusive cybersecurity community amongst you and your close friends.
- Get an understanding of correct and safe online behavior through reinforcement of the importance of safe online behavior, learning first principles and key concepts of cybersecurity, learn how to create strong passwords to protect data, mobile application security. Learn cyber security ethical behavior to instill good digital citizenship to stop cyberbullying.
- Experience teaching methods for cybersecurity content in K-12 curricula experience cybersecurity concepts via direct instruction, learning centers, whole group instruction for all learning styles. Through digital storytelling, students will demonstrate mastery of concepts learned throughout the camp.
